Nick Kinkaid's Resume
Nick Kinkaid has over
nine years experience in website information architecture, design, and application development. Previously a consultant for
Proxicom, Inc and Director of User Experience for CRI at
JPMorgan Chase, he is currently the Director of Online Experience for
Speakeasy, a
Best Buy Company.
Background
I've been interested and engaged in website design and development for most of my career, from the basics of html to the sciences of usability. I began building web pages in school and was hooked from the very beginning. In fact, the first website I ever built is still around in all its embarrassing glory.

My first professional position was with a small internet shop at the height of the .com bubble. Proxicom offered me the opportunity to augment my education with a crash course in real world consulting, although I still smile at the thought of people taking the advice of a 20 year old on how to build better websites. In my time at Proxicom I worked with a diverse collection of companies like Ford, DuPont, Black & Decker, Dairy Queen, and Department56.
Eventually the time came to leave the imploding .com world and join ranks with a more traditional company, and Bank One offered a unique chance to build enterprise middleware applications using the then-new Microsoft .Net platform. As part of the Microsoft Great Plains initiative, Bank One was one of the first companies to deploy large-scale .Net implementations and I was responsible for a truly wicked funds-transfer application, a component of Bank One Online Billpay.
In July of 2004, JPMorgan Chase acquired Bank One and I joined the Credit Infrastructure Transformation which had one goal: to design and develop a best-in-industry suite of applications to facilitate credit risk management in the third largest bank in the United States. I contributed to this project in three roles: first as lead information architect, then a change management analyst, and finally as CRI's Director of User Experience. It was the most rewarding job in my career – even considering the 50% travel between New York and London.
The one experience that financial services could not offer was the opportunity to launch a consumer product sold at retail, so in 2007 when my project had reached its final delivery, I moved to Seattle to work with a small ISP owned by Best Buy. Speakeasy, known more for its customer service oriented small business products, was launching a voice-over-IP test pilot in the Puget Sound area and I joined up as their Director of Online Experience. Speakeasy Voice launched in September 2008 and I have since been running the web development and creative organizations.
As my professional career has moved away from class files and IDEs to visio diagrams and Gantt charts, I've maintained a fresh skill set in the core technologies that drive the Internet; the best designs in the world are pointless if you can't articulate them to developers. Small weekend freelance projects augment this continuing education, and you'll find samples below.
